Our Community

Our school community demonstrates 5 core values with Love at the centre which are: Friendship, Forgiveness, Honesty, Trust and Hope.

We are very proud to be a Church School and our links with the Parish are very strong.  Reverend Sample and Pam Walker are regular presences round the school, sometimes leading worship and supporting whenever needed.  The whole School attends monthly church services and the children present special services in the Church on a number of occasions during the year to celebrate the major Christian festivals.  Parents are invited to share in these services with us.

We participate in a number of community projects in and around Whalton. Some are annual events such as:

  • the 'Whalton Village Show' in September. As soon as the children return from their summer break, they are busy preparing entries for the various competition classes.
  • the delivery of harvest gifts to Whalton residents in October.
  • a 'Remembrance' service in church in November.
  • a 'Summer Fayre' in June when we invite neighbouring schools to participate in our football tournament and watch Whalton children dance around the maypole.
  • the 'Whalton Bale' which is held on the 4th of July. The children dance on the Village Green and invite their relatives and friends to dance with them. Afterwards, an impressive beacon fire is lit on the Village Green. This event is well supported by the local community.
In June 2016, we welcomed the arrival of the 'Kern Babby' - a very impressive 15 feet statue, by artist Faye Claridge, to Whalton Village. The children learnt a new dance and performed in front of the villagers around the statue on the night of the 'Whalton Bale', with dance teacher Claire Harvey. They were also involved in making corn dollies with members of the community.

In 2017 and 2018 a smaller version of the 'Kern Babby' was temporarily installed in front of the Village Hall.. The school children danced around her on the 4th July before the Whalton Bale was lit.
