Admissions

When is a child required to start school?

The School Admissions Code requires school admission authorities to provide for the admission of all children in the September following their fourth birthday.  However, a child is not required to start school until they have reached compulsory school age following their fifth birthday.  For summer born children (those born after 1st April) this is almost a full school year after the point at which they could first be admitted.

Some parents may feel their child is not ready to start school in the September following their fourth birthday.  You can decide either that your child attends part-time until he/she reaches compulsory school age, or that the date your child is admitted to school is deferred until later in the same academic year, or that the date your child is admitted to school is deferred until the term after he/she reaches their fifth birthday when they must attend school full time.

Main School Admissions

The Governing Body of The Federation of Longhorsley & Whalton Church of England Voluntary Aided Schools is the Admissions Authority for the school.

This arrangement follows consultation between the Governing Body, the Local Authority, all other schools in the area and all other Admission Authorities in the area.  The school is open to receive applications for admissions from the parents of all children.

For Nursery age children there is a Pre-School organisation (Pre-school and After-school at Whalton) which shares our site. Please see the PAWS page for more information.

From September 2017, Whalton C of E Aided First School became Whalton C of E Aided Primary School, educating children up to Year 6.
