Overview
We understand the importance physical education and school sport have in developing the whole child. Our vision is to inspire a generation to hold deep the values of friendship, excellence and respect. Our aim is to challenge each child to reach their full intellectual, creative and physical potential. We aim to develop a sense of personal health and well-being and a desire for lifelong participation in physical activity or competitive sport.
We buy into a Service Level Agreement with Places for People (formerly Active Northumberland’s School Sports Partnership), for Sporting Festivals with other schools and buy in additional sporting specialists to enhance our PE curriculum each term alongside class teachers.
Sport Premium funding is government support for primary schools in England to improve PE, sport, and physical activity. It aims to boost children’s health, wellbeing, and physical development.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of what it covers:
Purpose of the Funding
- Enhance the quality of PE and sport provision in primary schools.
- Increase participation in physical activity among pupils.
- Build sustainable improvements in teaching and learning of PE.
How It Can Be Used
Schools must use the funding to improve PE and sport in five key areas:
- Curriculum PE: Improve teaching quality and offer at least two hours of high-quality PE per week.
- Daily physical activity: Encourage active lifestyles beyond PE lessons.
- Extracurricular sport: Provide broader opportunities like clubs and competitions.
- Swimming and water safety: Offer top-up lessons for pupils not meeting national standards.
- Professional development (CPD): Train staff to deliver better PE and sport.

Swimming
We are determined that all of our children gain this essential life skill and pay for Swimming lessons which take place every Tuesday afternoons at Ponteland Leisure Centre.
Years 5 and 6 will complete a water safety skills programme in the Summer Term in order to fulfil the national requirements, by the end of year 6.
